Thank you for your interest in PTP’s 2SLGBTQIA+ Screen Sector Workplace Initiative!
Led by Pink Triangle Press, this study seeks to explore the experiences of 2SLGBTQIA+ professionals in the Canadian film, television, and videogame industries with a focus on mentorship, career advancement, and workplace safety. The findings this study will be used to develop an evidence-based training program for the media industries to foster safer and more inclusive work environments for 2SLGBTQIA+ professionals.
Methodology
Pink Triangle Press has contracted 2024 PTP Pink Paper author Alex Custodio as our lead researcher on this project. Equally, Pink Triangle Press has selected EKOS Research Associates as our survey distribution platform with consultation from Strategic Inc.
Research for this project consists of:
- a mixed-method online survey that quantitatively measures 2SLGBTQIA+ professionals’ experiences working in the Canadian media industries and qualifies these findings through open-ended questions
- interviews with media professionals to help identify meaningful avenues for change grounded in lived experiences
Qualitative insights at both stages of this research project will enrich the statistical data with the lived experiences of 2SLGBTQIA+ professionals working in the Canadian media industries. These findings will be used to develop our evidence-based training program for the media industries to foster safer and more inclusive workplaces. The results of this research will be shared through a public-facing report.
Survey
Potential participants will receive a secure link to EKOS’s platform. The survey will only take around 15 minutes to complete and is available in English or French. It will ask questions about mentorship, career advancement, and workplace safety. We encourage respondents to share only what they’re comfortable sharing.
Participation in this study is entirely voluntary. Survey responses will be kept completely confidential, and respondents will remain anonymous in the final report.
Interviews
Interviews will last between 45 and 60 minutes and will be conducted online. These interviews will be semi-structured—meaning conversational in nature—and will address the topics of career advancement, mentorship, access to industry support, and workplace environments for 2SLGBTQIA+ professionals.
As with our survey, participation is entirely voluntary. Interview participants can decide whether to name themselves in the project or remain entirely confidential.
