Our Organization

Our board & direction

The Press is a not-for-profit corporation governed by an eight-member Board of Directors that meets monthly at our head office in Toronto. The Board is elected annually by the Members of the corporation at our Annual General Meeting, which usually takes place in late spring.

The Board entrusts the achievement of our mission to an Executive Director, who heads a workforce of approximately 60 people.

Our workforce

The workforce is organized into five divisions and an Office of the Executive Director.

The Office of the Executive Director oversees and supports the work of the divisions. It includes an editorial department for the creation of multiplatform content; an accounting and financial department; and a digital technology department responsible for programming and digital infrastructure.

» With offices in Toronto and Ottawa, our Eastern Print Publishing Division publishes two community newspapers: Xtra in Toronto and Capital Xtra in Ottawa. It also publishes two annuals – Index and Ultimate Pride Guide – in each of those cities. In Ottawa, this division also mounts three community-building annual events: LGX, a community organizations and businesses fair; Heros, Capital Xtra's community achievement awards; and Transgress, a literary evening.

» Our Western Print Publishing Division, located in Vancouver, publishes Xtra West , a community newspaper, and Xtra West's Ultimate Pride Guide. It also produces the annual Community Hero Awards.

» Our International Publishing Division publishes The Guide, a monthly sexual politics and travel magazine distributed throughout the United States and Canada. The division also produces Guidemag.com, the magazine's website.

» Located in Ottawa, our National Internet Publishing Division, is responsible for producing Xtra.ca, a national news and politics website.

» Finally, our Connectivity Business Division, headquartered in Toronto, operates Cruiseline, Canada's leading gay chatline. It also produces Squirt.org, an international website featuring a guide to cruising for gay men.

Our partners

The Press is also a partner in other businesses.
